What is the National Peace Foundation (NPF)?
NPF is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that is dedicated to empowering citizen peacebuilders and grassroots efforts to reduce conflict and build peace around the world. Read more about NPF in our mission and history section.
How long has the National Peace Foundation existed?
NPF has existed for over 25 years. The History page provides a detailed account of NPF's many changes and evolutions over this period of time.
Is the National Peace Foundation related to the United States Institute of Peace (USIP)?
Both NPF and USIP share a common history dating back some thirty years with the movement to establish a National Peace Academy. As part of the educational arm of this movement, the National Peace Academy Foundation was created in 1982. Although USIP and NPF are independent of one another, we acknowledge and celebrate our shared history.
How are the National Peace Foundation and the National Peace Academy related?
The National Peace Foundation began as the National Peace Academy Campaign. Over the past 25 years, the organization eventually evolved into what is now the National Peace Foundation. In recent years, there has been a renewal of the original idea for a National Peace Academy, a project that NPF is involved in developing. What is the National Peace Foundation's position on the many conflicts that plague our world such as in Iraq, Afghanistan, Darfur, Burma, Congo and many others?
NPF is not an anti-war advocacy organization and, as such, does not take a position on these conficts. However, NPF is strongly committed to the reduction of violent conflict in all instances where peacekeeping, conflict resolution and peacebuilding might prevail to restore civil society. Most importantly, NPF is focused on eliminating the causes of violent conflict and we continue to work with citizen peacebuilders to prevent future conflicts.
Where are your offices located?
NPF maintains two office locations: 1100 G St. NW, Suite 202, Washington, DC 2005 and The NPF Stonewood Farm Campus & Conference Center, Brevard, NC 28712.
What is the Open World?
The Open World Leadership Center is a foundation funded by the U.S. Congress through the Library of Congress. Open World sponsors delegations from Russia, Ukraine, Eurasia, and several Baltic states to the United States with the goal of enhancing understanding and cooperation between these regions of the world. Open World provides many of the grants that fund NPF's delegations around the country throughout the year. Our Open World programs fall under the Citizens in Partnership program area. Does National Peace Foundation send people to the Middle East?
Yes, NPF sends people to the Middle East through two programs, the Middle East Dialogues program titled Islam in America and through Peacebuilder Tours,in partnership with Interfaith Peace Builders. More information about these projects can be found under our Eyewitness to Peace program category.
How do I get in contact with someone that I hosted?

Where does the National Peace Foundation get most of its funding?
The majority of NPF's funding comes from various grants that are specifically designated to support programmatic work. However, these grants do not fully support all of the costs of our projects, and we therefore rely heavily on private contributions and donations from supporters.
How can I get involved with National Peace Foundation?
There are several different ways that you can get involved with NPF. We are always looking for people who are interested in hosting a delegation as well as families who are interested in hosting a delegate during his/her stay. We also periodically take on interns and volunteers to help us with specific events or projects. There are several ways that you can perpetuate your annual gift to NPF, and we have useful information on making bequests. As a not-for-profit charitable organization, there are tax benefits associated with certain kinds of bequests.
