Africa University

The National Peace Foundation’s collaboration with Zimbabwe’s Africa University sought to establish a new generation of responsible African leaders.  NPF assisted the university’s Institute of Peace, Leadership and Governance with the development of courses on conflict prevention, management, and resolution.  Our staff made site visits to the University and brought University staff to the United States for consultative sessions with education leaders.

Africa University opened in March 1992 as the first private, Methodist-based University in Zimbabwe. Dr. Rudkudzo Murapa, a native Zimbabwean was persuaded to leave his senior post at the World Bank to become the university’s Vice Chancellor. Upon arriving, Dr. Murapa developed the Institute of Peace, Leadership and Governance. The institute seeks to build a peaceful and prosperous Africa.

NPF is currently exploring how it can further contribute to this progressive and educational institute. For more information regarding this institute and the African University of Zimbabwe please visit www.africau.edu.
